Yuri Gagarin Plc - History

The company was established in 1964 as the only manufacturer for cardboard and paper printed packages, cigarette filters, spare parts, non-standard equipment and recycling of machinery for the cigarette and tobacco industry in Bulgaria. In 1993 the company was transformed into a joint stock company with an Order of the Council of Ministers, as the successor of the Yuri Gagarin Works, Plovdiv and the respective part of the assets and the liabilities of Economic Association Bulgartabac - Sofia.

At present the company's shares are traded on the main market of Bulgarian Stock Exchange - Sofia AD, the standard equities segment, with BSE Code 4PX.
Until October 2006 Yuri Gagarin Plc was an affiliate company and a part of the group Bulgartabak Holding AD, Sofia. On October 3, 2006 the company shares owned by Bulgartabac Holding AD were sold out by public offering on the Bulgarian Stock Exchange - Sofia, in a mixed, closed auction.
Today Yuri Gagarin Plc is a leading manufacturer of multi-color cardboard and paper printed packages and labels for the cigarette, food-processing, cosmetic and other industries and a leading manufacturer of cigarette filters for the cigarette industry. Yuri Gagarin Plc operates from its plant and administrative premises spread on an area of 26 000 square meters in the north industrial area of the city of Plovdiv.

The Printing House of Yuri Gagarin Plc offers a wide range of printing services including: prepress, offset printing, UV spot and overall varnishing, roto-gravure and flexo printing, hot-foil stamping, embossing, creasing, die-cutting, PVC windowing and up to six-point gluing. The production of cigarette filters is an important part of the Yuri Gagarin Plc operations. The product list includes a great variety of mono-acetate and combined cigarette filters of different length, diameter, ventilation, pressure drop and segmentation. The costumers' preferences and the market demands determine the policy of the company for cost-effective and innovative investments in :

  • new technologies and high-productive printing machines;
  • new equipment for finishing printing operations;
  • production of specific cigarette filters: charcoal and recess filters;
  • production of cigarette filter tubes;
  • infrastructure projects and restructuring the production facilities and equipment;
  • enterprise resource planing systems;
  • further training and development of the personnel.

The total amount of the investments for the period 2005-2011 is over 40 million BGN.

We are responsible towards environment protection. The company has accepted a program for waste management, consistent with legal requirements and company development.


Today Yuri Gagarin Plc is a public company limited by shares with more than 900 shareholders legal entities and physical persons. The capital of Yuri Gagarin Plc is divided into 1 003 904 registered, dematerialized voting shares with a nominal value of 1 BGN each. The shares of the company are registered at the Central Depository AD .Yuri Gagarin Plc has a one-tier management system, the Board of Directors.
